Life in the fast lane

I'm not sure when my life took off like a tournado but holy crap on a cracker!  The last couple of weeks have been a crazy mad blur and I can't seem to get 2 seconds to come up for air!  Here's how my days have been spent.

In February - Dad had a heart attack, followed by a quadrupal bypass.  When the surgeon opened him up, he cut his sternum too far to one side (Dad - as big as he is - has a narrow sternum) so they couln't use the wire to hold it together for fear that it would crush through the thin side (which is incredibly very ultra bad-bad-bad!) so - they used mandibular plates and screws.  Ok - great!  As I sat listening to the surgeon (back in February) explaining that the plates are the same as what is used on a jaw I remember thinking...Hmmm...A jaw is a fixed bone that moves...not a moving bone like a split sternum...but hey - what do I know?  Well...turns out my thought had a point cuz guess what - Dads sternum came un-done and he had a plate and screws floating loose in his chest!  (Insert multiple prayers here)  Fast forward to last tuesday.  Dad is admitted to the Saint John hospital and made to fast as of 10pm because he is scheduled for surgery at 11:30 Wednesday morning.  He's diabetic too - so his sugars were bound to be a little wonky from it...
Wednesday morning - I'm in the car with Mom at 7am and we head to Saint John.  We get to Dads room and wait...and wait...and wait..during that time, I worked on and managed to finish making a pattern for a doll!  It even has toes!!  Can't wait to get it typed up so that I can set it loose for some trial runs :)  At 3:30 in the afternoon (yes - his surgery was supposed to happen 4 hours ago) the surgeon comes in and says that he'll try to fit Dad in before 10pm...but if he can't, Dad can eat at 10:00pm - and then fast again as of midnight and they will put him on a priority list for the next day...guess what - 10pm came and went.  Poor Dad was starving hungry by that point and very little could be found in their "cafeteria" at that hour.  We hung out with Dad and drove home in the awful rainy roads, through the back 40 of hell - trying to watch for moose and other critters - with transport truck headlights beating in through the back window.  It was awful - but we made it home by midnight.
Thursday morning - I'm in the car with Mom at 7am and we head to Saint John. On our way - I dug out some grey yarn to start a monkey hat and Mom puts in a request for an owl toilet paper cover!  (??!)  Oh well - who am I to say no to Mom??  He was done (mostly) before we left the hospital :)  As for Dad...Remember the story from yesterday?  Well...ditto for today!  They left him waiting again for hours and nagged at him when his sugars were out of whack!  DUH!  you didn't give him his insulin or sugar pills - made him fast all day - let him eat at 10pm and fast again??  Too bad it's illegal for me to hit you with a big stick!  We were all frustrated! Dad ate at 10pm, and we were in the car headed home by 10:20, bu the roads were clear and I was home in bed by midnight.
Friday morning - I went to work...but had to pick my aunts up at the airport.  They flew home from Cuba at 4:00...I met them off the plane and was home by 5pm...(side note - they discharged Dad for the weekend and wanted him back at the hospital first thing Monday morning to start the same exhausting waiting game all over again - ugh!)  where was I??  Oh yeah - just got home and whipped up a super quick dinner and shot back in town to pick up a couple of things before heading to the play house with oldest kiddo to see "Les Miserables".  A boy from her class was in the play so we HAD to go!  $35. later we were not seated together...but she got to see "him".  They all did a really great job.  It was the first time I had ever seen it.  I didn't really like the play itself - it was too complicated to follow...but the actors all were great :) and it was fun to watch.  The play started at 8pm, but didn't finish till after 11pm.  Did I mention that I had to deliver a cake at 2:00 tomorrow...and hadn't even started it yet?? Ugh!  So - 11:20 and we're off to Sobeys!  Pickup stuff to bake a cake and went hom to do just that!
Saturday morning - up at the cr
ack of dawn (Oh - today is DH's birthday!)  I'm mixing and whipping frosting and making various colors - assembling the skirt and all is going well.  Littlest kiddo woke up and made a rice krispie squire cake for her Dad's birthday.  She spent over 2 hours decorating it and it turned out terrific!  I was so proud of her!  I managed to finish the cake by noon...which is when

hubby woke up :)  We sang happy birthday to him and shared his cake.  I delivered the Barbie cake, then back home to bake another one...oh right - did I mention that kiddo's BFF's birthday party is tomorrow and I have to decorate a tiger face cake for her??  yeah - WTH was I thinking??  (In my defense - I hadn't planned the Saint John trips when I agreed to make the cakes). Mom took the girls so hubby and I could go see a movie - went to the cheap theatre to see source code.  Good movie!  Home after midnight (we stopped for cheese cake on teh way) then turned in for the night.

Sunday am - up before the sun to decorate a freakin Tiger cake!  violin lessons are at 11:00 and the party starts at 1:00...oh and we don't ahve a gift yet! AUGH!  I was a whirling vortex of life-force sucking hell...but the tiger face turned out awesome!  I finished it at 10:20 - took a 2 minute shower and had the cake in the trunk and kiddo at violin lessons by 11:00 sharp!  11:30 and we were on our way to Walmart - got our gift, hit the drive through at McD's, hit the dollar store for a 9 candle and matches...then to the hotel for a pool party.  Party was fun - ran from 1 to 4...at the end - I was sacked!  My camera battery died half way through - AUGH!  helped tidy up a little - loaded tired kiddo in the car and then took her home....just in time to head back in town for groceries!!  AUGH!  Back home by 6pm, made dinner, packed lunches, hit laundry, tried to tidy...and on...and on...and on...
Monday was nuts at work and nutser at home...Youngest kiddo came home from school sick.  Monday night I got to wake at 3am...(*note - chocolate pudding tastes the same in both directions.  Zesty cheese dorito's...not so much!)
Tuesday - had to go in to the office for a couple of quick things, but was back out by 9:30am - headed home sick, with laptop in hand so that I could work from home for the day...laptop worked like crap and I fell asleep at 4pm...adn woke up at 11pm!  AUGH!  still tired but too awake to sleep and I felt totally barfy!  On a Dad note - they finally got Dad into an OR at 9pm and he got out after 11pm. Surgery went well, but Dad is to be on total bed rest for at least 3 weeks - no moving no using his arms...nothing! He's a big man and that's gonna be super hard for him! As always - we'll take whatever prayers you've got!

I took a Gravol which leads me to...
Wednesday morning - Thanks to Gravol, I slept through my alarm and woke up when the front door slammed shut - oldest kiddo (Gawd love her) got up and ready for school, and put herself on the bus!  who knew such things only took 13 years to figure out! :)  But other kiddo had a crazy temp so I had to scoot in town to grab more tylenol and run it back home to her...where DH had also picked up our flu...I bought her a cheapo webkinz too to entertain her until hubby joined the world of the living...and then I headed to the office.  She called me at work about a dozen times with Webkinz questions - augh!  Nutzo day at work, then off to pick up more cough syrup and something for dinner...and somehow managed to whip up some fun treasure filled soaps for kiddo's class mates - but honestly, the rest of the night has been a blur...And to be honest - I've left soooo much out I could easily fill the pages of a novel!

I am sincerely hoping that things calm down soon cuz I can't keep up with this!  My brain feels like it has been rolled in sand and I haven't had a sensible thought in days!  Anyhoo - if you see me floating in a zombified haze...poke me with something sharp and point me in the right direction - m'kay? :)  As for life in the fast lane...screw it!  I wanna car-pool!

Aint nuthin "Golden" bout Ron Weasley Red

DD (she's 8) has an obsession with hightlights. Before school I put some in and they were super cute. They wore off pretty fast, though, and she picked out a new color - very very red! I said only a few small ones...but they were sooooo carrot top red, they kinda consumed her head. They looked pretty cute, until they faded to a nasty brassy/peroxide color and the roots started to show - then, it was not awesome! Before Christmas, I got a temporary color to help blend everything together...it would have worked very well, except that kiddo washed her hair with body wash immediately following our dye-job and most of the color was gone first night. In desperation, I figured enough is enough...I bought a box of permanent "Golden Brown" which matches her natural color. I put the color in her hair at 7:30 and by 8:00 was rinsing it out...I was immediately afraid! Her roots were the prettiest shade of peach/strawberry blonde! AUGH! WTH is "Golden" in THAT??! I rinsed and rinsed, knowing full well that the dammage had been done! It's a lovely color...but it'll only be a couple days until the roots start to show. Darn you vanity! Darn you to bits!!!

Death of a Turkey Dinner...

My Mother(who is not a Pospolita) decided to host a Pospolita Christmas Dinner this year - Incredibly thoughtful, but the idea of 8 children + 8 Adults all crammed into my Moms very breakable home was scary for me! The truth, though, is that we hadn't been together as a Family in over 2 years and I reeeeeeely wanted it to happen. Since most everything in my home is worthless (he he) I decided to host it at our place instead. Mom lives next door - it wasn't a tough sell, especially since the "Pospolita Ranch" is way more kiddo friendly. The sad part is that the ranch is also waaaay messier then Moms place so the Clean-athon began. I cleaned and dug and purged and packed and sorted and organized for 3 days straight! I worked morning and night to get everything as spic n' span as is possible.

Everything was on track until... *DUNH-DUNH-DUNH* (insert horror flic - something bad is about to happen-sound effect here) the water pump started acting up. I ignored it - it was late on Saturday night and I was in the cleaning zone.

Sunday morning - It was a bright and sunny day...and the water pump was still acting up...and I was hunting for a roasting pan that would hold a 40lb turkey. Not an easy task, I assure you. I managed to barrow on from a fellow gal-pal though, and (as mentioned in my previous post) it fit like post-buffet skinny jeans. We had a few issues with smoke due to sweet potatoe spill over in the bottom of the stove...but basically, we were on track. Mom was coming over at 2:00 to help set tables etc...

and then...*DUNH-DUNH-DUNH* (*insert horror flick - something bad is going to happen - sound effect here*)

DH checks on the pump and determines that we have a serious problem. The neighbor had recently dug a trench through our side yard to install a drain in her basement - which had flooded so badly that she lost power. For whatever reason, since they dug the trench...we were now having problems with our well which lies only a short distance from where they dug...AND...Dad pointed out the "puddle-ish thing" at the bottom of the yard where the well sits. (*see pic *) AUGH!!!!! Behold, my 2011 J-Walker!!

We tried like crazy (without water) to pull it off, but the closer we came to the time of our Turkey Dinner, the more we realized that it wasn't a good plan. You see - if you had to pee...you had to wait for DH to run downstairs and turn on the breaker to the pump...if you needed water - same thing.

Plus...when the breaker is on...the ground was like a huge soppy sponge...filling with water that was gushing out through the surface...and when he turned it off - it was a sink hole! And so...our Pospolita Turkey Dinner plans died with out well...

We called the guys who dug for our neighbors...the showed up - did nothing...we had to make our own arrangements. The problem likely would have occurred eventually anyway - but they were definately part of moving things along - grr!

This morning, Dad made a couple of calls. (*mental note for 2011 - make friends with an escavator owner-operator and bake for him alot!*)

and the dig began...

See that little white line over his boot?? That would be our villain. A jet like stream of water, equivalent to that of a high powered nerf squirt gun.
The elbow off of the well cover sprung a leak and had been running for goodness knows how long (sitting 8+ feet below ground).

Thankfully, Dad made another call (*mental note - make friends with old-school plumber/well guy and bake for him alot!*) By 5:00 today, the hole was covered over and we now have lots of running water! :) We also have lots and lots of turkey, though...and not "rain date" has been set for our Pospolita Turkey Dinner.
So far, 2011 has been a bit of a drip! :S

Excuse me but your bird is HUGE!

I am still not sure what made me concent, but I let DH pick out our Christmas Turkey this year. It may have had something to do with the 16 person Turkey Dinner that was planned - but I'm still giving my head a shake over the shere ostrich like size of the darn thing! I did learn something, though. Finding a roasting pan big enough for a 40+lb turkey is kinda like trying to find a live unicorn! The barrowed pan in the picture fits him, much like skinny jeans fit me! (There is definate spillage...but I'm in them!) Mr. Turkey was spillin over the edges of the pan...but he was "in" for all intents and purposes. :)

Oh - and the pan in the picture measures 12"x16"...and yes my kitchen sink is green. :S

Grams cake

I had a vision of a tall round basket iced cake with multiple mini cup cakes iced too look like flowers, suspended by squers (how the heck do you spell that) at varying heights to look like a real boquet.

Step 1. Learn how to basket weave frosting! This one wasn't so bad, and I'm reeely proud of how well it turned out! I found a link that showed a picture of how to do it. thankfully - I'm visual so it wasn't half bad. I started out with my vertical lines a little too close together, but by the time I finished, I had the hang of it and I LOVE the results!

Step 2. Ice cup cakes to look like flowers. Ok - here's where everything went to sh&%! I used a mix for Gram's cake, but normally, I use a heavier batter. Everything was going fine, until the weight of the cupcakes with frosting drug them down the sticks so that they were poking through! ugh! *ping* Brainwave!! I cut mini marshmellow's in half and used them as stoppers!! I'M A GENIUS!!! Cept...that's when I found out the cake had to travel to Royalton! *sigh* There's no way that mini marshmellows will stand the vibration of a 2hour car ride...baaaack to square one!

Step 3. Start over!! The end result was to take the top off of a big cupcake and use it as a base for the 3 sunflowers. I used my sticks to hold it all in place, and stuck the mini cupcakes in and around and touched up the smears that resulted from the mess I made earlier.

Anyway - I know that Gram has never had a cake like it, and she'll be thrilled. Normally I like learning lessons...cuz I solve the problems and know better for next time. This time, though, I didn't actually solve anything which was a bummer! I will try again, though and I'm still very happy that I finally managed to pull off the basket weave thing!

So - Here she is in all her finished splendor. The colors are a little washed out in the pic, but you get the idea! If I would have had more time, there would have been more colors on the cake...as it is - rose is Grams fave color so it's all good! Maybe I'll try to master roses next time??

and now...I'm off to clean up the kitchen... *sigh* Or maybe I'll just bake another cake?? lol

Damnit!!

In theory, I'm technically not off track. I have my 2nd 8" round in the oven - the 1st is cooling. I cheated (which I should never ever try cuz if I read back over every freakin attempt to cheat I totally suck at it!!) and didn't quite fill the 2nd pan so that I'd have enough batter left to fill my mini cup-cake pan that I want to use for the flowers...yeah - great idea...cept - I freakin burnt the living crap out of them!! thinking back - I paid way too damn much for the pan and have yet to get a single batch of un-burnt anything out of them! GRRRR!

*sigh* guess I need to whip up another batch of batter to make the darn mini cup-cakes...so close - and yet so far! LOL

Oh well - I guess this means more baking for people at work on Monday! lol

Flower basket cake!

today I will get to bake a flower basket cake for my Gram's 80th Birthday. she's a bit of a space alien - but I love her! lol My vision is to create a low flower pot shaped base, with basket weave frosting all over (this will be my first attempt - wish me luck!) I'll top it with oreo crumbs for dirt, and punch the top with wooden sticks for flower stems and make mini cup-cakes for the flowers...Not sure if that's how my vision will come through...but we'll see?? LOL

DH vs. Lucy

DH and I had an iterresting discussion last night on the way home from the grocery store! lol We picked up a few things (9 items to be exact) and went through the express lane. $53. later we were on our way to the car. I mentioned the cost to him and he pointed out that $20 of that was for Lucy's food. Then he laughed and said - that's it - she's gotta go! I quickly jumped to my girls defense! Dood! do you really wanna compete with the dog to see who stays or goes?? He laughed and said that she costs too much to feed! That's when the comparison started.

1 - You both look at me funny when I talk to you.
2 - I have to shave and groom you both!
3 - I have to pick up both of your SH&%!
4 - You both snore and take up way too much of the couch.
5 - You'll both eat anything - even what's bad for you...even when you know it makes you throw up!!
6 - I have to clean up after both of you! ;)
7 - Neither one of you can cook!
8 - You both get way too excited when I leave and come home!
9 - You both pee wherever you chose.
10 - Neither one of you know where your car keys are.

Then I pointed out why he better not wager his residential status against the dogs...

1. - Lucy doesn't torment.
2. - She doesn't pass gass and blame you!
3. - She doesn't sulk and pout when I tell her to go to bed.
4. - She'll eat whatever I give her without criticizing how it was made...since she knows she can't cook! lol
5. - She listens when I talk and doesn't argue ;)
6. - She never complains.
7. - She doesn't call my cell phone a zillion times a night wondering when I'll be home. (when I only left a half hour ago for the grocery store.
8. - I never have to scold her.
9. - she doesn't hog the blankets.
10. - she'll go anywhere I want to go and is just happy that I asked her to come along!
11. - She doesn't create a ton of laundry.
12. - She lets the kids dress her up in princess clothes and even lets us take her picture!
13. - She shares her movie popcorn.
14. - She never wrecks my stuff! (she only chews his if he gets mad at her!! LOL)
15. - She's cheaper to feed.

I offered to continue, but he didn't feel that was necessary! LOL He was pretty quiet the rest of the ride home though! ;) In any case - I think I'll let them both stay, cuz Lucy can't defend me from the kids! lol

Charachter quirks and cute cupcakes

I'm a stress baker and an anger cleaner! You would think, then, that my home would be spotless and always smell like the keebler elves tree!! lol Not the case, though - sadly.

I start my new job in the morning, and I needed to bake something - anything!! So - I whipped out a mix (which I haven't done in a while cuz it feels like cheating!) and created these yummy little numbers! :)
I found the idea on the Geek-Princess blog and they just made me smile. I think the ones on her blog, though, were fondant. I couldn't bring myself to use fondant cuz chewy bits on a cupcake just seems weird - so I loaded on the buttercream, and froze it so that I could smooth it out with a heated spatula - worked pretty good I think! Next time I plan to take the frosting clear to the edge...you can never have too much frosting - right?! ;) My favorite is the squinty guy! :)
For the record - they are as yummy as they are cute!! :)

Happy Freakin New Years Eve!!!

Today did not turn out quite the way I had planned. I needed the car, so I was up at the crack of dawn to drive hubby to work by 7:30am. On the way to work, we realized we forgot to let the dog out - and DH didn't bring a lunch - crap! I drop him off and baaaaack to the house I go to let Lucy out and pack him a lunch. I made Turkey soup last night, so I put some in a container, grabbed a spoon and out the door I ran. I ran back to the Superstore to get prescriptions filled, then up to Walmart to pick up some odds n' ends and munchies for tonight. Bank machine to pay bills, Dollar Store to grab more containers, then back to DH's work with his soup - DAMN! He doesn't have a microwave!! Grrrr! No big - I tell him I'll bring something back to him and at 10:20am I was feeding a meter behind the library so that I could scoot into the office and unpack the last few boxes of my stuff. My twonie bought me till 11:50 so I had to hurry! I was doing pretty good, but DH called at 11:15 to see when I'd be bringing his lunch - crap! he wanted something from harveys! No big - it's on Regent, and so am I...cept...you can only turn into Harveys if you're coming DOWN Regent - so...I have to drive a loop around the city to get to Harveys! I'm running late, but at 11:45, I was pulling out of the Library onto Queen. The light was red, but I can turn right anyway - cept there's a guy at the cross walk and even though he doesn't have the walk light - I don't trust pedestrians!! People behind me are now honking, and the guy looks over and waves me on - thanks buddy! Drive drive drive...I make it to Harveys. Dooooown Regent to the "River Loop" to hit Smythe. Yay for me! When I get to Smythe, the light is green and I have the arrow to turn left onto Brunswick. There's a huge SUV in the center lane, but I still have the light. I slow down to about 30km/hr and just as I cross the line into the intersection - BAM!!!! A guy walks out in front of my car!!! I HIT A FREAKIN PEDESTRIAN!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! My windshield looks like it was hit with a baseball bat and I've got visions of a white blanket laying on the road, but the freakin guy rolls off the hood of my car, and immediately jumps to my window to ask ME if I'm ok?! WTF?! I hit HIM with MY car, and HE is asking ME if I'M OK?! I was totally shaken, so I had to pull through the intersection, but couldn't see a darn thing through the windshield, and glass bits were falling in on me!! Just as I pulled into the Budget parking lot - 2 GQ looking guys in a dark car get out and come to my window. (Undercover cops from the criminal investigation unit!! Oh gawd! ) They called a cruiser and an ambulance and then a witness shows up to confirm that it would have been like hitting a deer cuz he was out in front of me and I had absolutely no time to react!! (Thank you stranger man!!) The guy I hit refused treatment (???) and claims he's absolutely fine!! But I got to spend the next 2 hours in a tow truck, going to the shop, picking up a rental and all kinds of other insurance related crap!! >:( AND even though it isn't my fault, I'll still have to pay a $250. deductable!! :( Which sucks cuz this is not a good time for that! :( Anyway, my windshield is shattered, there's a dent and a huge scuff accross my hood, but nobody was hurt (Thank you God!) and I have a rental...which is cleaner then anything else I would have been driving otherwise! lol

I guess I am closing out 2009 with one helluva bang!! I can honestly say...I would have rather beem baking!!

Happy New Year!!

Happy Birthday Doc

What are the odds that a bugs bunny pan would be so darn hard to find?! I had a pan for ages and was happy to accept an order for this cake...then it hit me!! I GAVE AWAY THE PAGE LAST YEAR!!! ugh! Oh well - Scoop & Save still rents it so my uncles name is Bob! ;) My first cake totally fell apart - crap! The 2nd one stayed together, though, with the help of loads of frosting!! I'm really quite happy with how it turned out :) It doesn't look exactly like the pan...but I think it's pretty darn close ;) I'm told the Birthday Boy was happy with it too so all is well in the world of cakes! :)

My new fave cake!

This cake was really fun! Each of the little girls is made of rice krispie squares that I formed into "twinkie" shapes, and covered in fondant. Everything under the sleepy girls is cake! (except the pillows which are marshmellows! ;)

The Birthday girl arrived at my home to pick up her sleepover cake this morning. It was the first one I had done like this...and wasn't sure if it was exactly what they were looking for - but - she walks in sooper little and way cute. I lifted the lid on the box and her eyes were as big as saucers when she said "WOW! You're gooood!" :)

Thanks kiddo! I think you're pretty great too! I guess I can claim another happy customer!

Boston Bruins Cake

Well, this one started out crumby - with the power going out and all - not much awesomeness being had there...I finally picked the 2 defective cakes up off the front deck this morning! lol

The inside of it was marble black and yellow (I used coloring paste to color the batter). It was a standard white and chocolate marble though.
Here it is in all it's hockey splendor. I put it in the fridge (not thinking) so the fondant turned shiney, but the recipient was sooper happy with it - so I'm happy too! :)

The Power of Power

I've been sick all week. In fact, I'm only starting to feel human today. I thought it best to take one more day of rest before heading back to work. Feeling semi-normal, I figured I'd get a jump start on my cakes. (I have 2 due on Friday) One is a Boston Bruins Hockey Puck cake. The 2nd is a sleepover cake. I have both planned well and was good to go. I figured I'd start with the Puck cake first, since it's the simplest. Even if I only get the cake baked, I'm still ahead of the game. Everything was going super well, and I had the cake in the oven by 8:50 this morning....9am they're both starting to rise a little - everything is going according to plan...9:05 VVVZZZEEEWWWW: *pop* the power goes out!! CRAP!!! So now I literally have 2 hockey puck cakes!

Here we go again!

Bonus with Purchase!!

On sunday I noticed that we have "Christmas Store" where Cottage Industries used to be. DD and I went it to check it out and it wasn't all amazing, but we did find a few fun things for cheap. One thing I found was a set of these little numbers that I've wanted forever. I was pretty excited about my purchase - especially since they are the mini ones!! how adorable!!! And...at $4.99 even the price was mini! Tonight I noticed that the 2 plant in my scrap room were a little thirsty! So - I grabbed my two Aqua globes, filled them up and ran downstairs...cept...I wasn't expecting to find my bonus with purchase...
EWWW!!!
I'm not sure what species it is and I reeely hope it's dead! :( Now I'm worried that it had living friends in the box that I left unattended on the dining room table! :(
They are now drying out in the window of the bathroom in hopes that it will fall out once it's dry. I was too much of a woose to take the pic myself so I got kiddo to take them for me...

yeah...happy feeling gone.
**Update**
Today, I went back to the store and told the girl about my bonus. She said - "Bring it in and we'll gladly exchange it!" YAY! Then I found out that the only reason she was exchanging it was that she wanted to see the bug!! LOL
Oh well - I bought another box too! (But I checked for critters before leaving the store ;)

Franken-Bird and Dog puke!

Nothing says Thanksgiving like the smell of dog vomit!! Yess-er-ee boy! After reading about wedding cake and frosting for the last zillion posts, I'm guessing that swept you back on your feet quite nicely!! Lol

Thanksgiving was quiet this year…Hubby and I took kiddo apple picking, but there wasn't much left to pick so it didn't take long. One of the highlights of the trip was a little boy (about 4) who was running down the path from the horse paddock screaming "DAD! DAD! I GAVE THE HORSE AN APPLE AND HE MADE APPLE JUICE!!!" Ok - eww - but it totally cracked me up!

I bought my turkey (frozen) on Thursday. Did my Turkey math and it's now Monday - I'm good to go! GREAT BIG FREEZIN WRONG!!! Who knew that 4 days in the fridge will NOT thaw a turkey! Well…now I know! By the time it was done, it looked like Franken-bird (ooo - visual!) but it was cooked at least. We had to take almost all the water out and cut off the legs, but still…it only took 5 hours to cook!!

In the process, though, hubby thought he'd make nice with the dog…all 120lbs of her! Yup - he fed her breakfast twice…nice! Then fed her half cooked turkey guts!! Yummm!!! Had I witnessed his lapse in judgement, I probably could have avoided the $8 cost of getting oldest kiddo to clean it up! Honestly, though - it was a steal! No way would I have done it for free!! Especially since it took at least 3 dust pan loads and half a pack of bounty big napkins, just to clean up the first pile!! Ewwww!!

Once the bird cooking and barf cleaning was done, though, I think we all enjoyed a great Turkey dinner and the kids totally had a blast looking at the dog puke so overall, I think we had a pretty good - all be it interresting Thanksgiving!

And now I'm off to make another cake! Groan

The Revenge of Rubberface!

I'm a bad tooth owner - I'll admit it! I'm not sure why I avoid the dentist…I just do! I shouldn't though - my dentist is totally cute! He's got a fooze ball table, video games and television in the ceiling! And yet - I go about every 3 years…usually when I HAVE to go.

Last night we had pork chops for dinner…I took a bite and WHAM! It felt like my tooth would split in two!!! I didn't eat last night…by this morning I was starving and my tooth still hurt! I was lucky to get in to see my Dentist at 10:30 this morning. He told me that when a tooth ache is waking you up at night it means 1 of 2 things...it would need to be pulled…or a root canal!! Happy feeling gone!! My first response was…"I was kidding - it's totally NOT waking me up at night!" So he laughed at me and tapped on the troubled tooth with something metal and painful!! So I jumped about 2 feet and when I landed I told him I'd mess him up if he hurt me! lol Yeah - he totally wasn't threatened! An hour later, I left with a temporary filling to deal with for 2 weeks while the medication they jammed into the root canal does its thing!

I head to the superstore for Ibuprofin...then to Tim HOrtons for chocolate milk to wash it down. The punk behind the counter was admiring my palsy (which conicadentally also magnifies the moustache I seem to have grown overnight!). I try to smile and tell him I just had a root canal...He says - "yeah - I can tell!" I seriously wanted to kick the crap out of him! Then he laughs at me when I tried to take a drink!!! I didn't think it was that funny! Imagine trying to coordinate drinking from a triangular cardboard box without half of your bottom lip! Yeah...Not Hot!! And not funny either!! We'll see who's laughing when I kick his A$%! LOL

So here I sit - back at work. I picked up Wendy's cuz I'm starving and thought…it's soft! Well…it's the Revenge of Rubber Face!! The drool is totally NOT HOT and I'm trying to tear hunks of my burger off with my lips…but only half my face is working! The other half feels like it's sliding off! I really do look quite ridiculous and everyone is looking at me funny! I tried to take a drink of my coke...but my pucker is frozen too! Seriously!! Hopefully when the freezing comes out I won't look like such a dork!!

Oh a happier note - I got 3 bags of Timothy mix hay for the girls today for only $2.99 each!! WOOT! (Oh - for those of you who don't know..."The girls" in question are my guinea pigs and not my children...My children won't touch the stuff! LOL)
